I got ITG PC two weeks ago, and I've been playing it with my keyboard for the first week I got it. I can do some 11s/12s and just about all 10s and easier with my keyboard now (but keyboard doesn't really mean much). I have a DDR Mario mix soft pad (gamecube) and I played that when I was like 8 but it was very easy and I haven't used it in 8 years. I ordered a GC to USB adapter from Amazon and I've been playing ITG on my PC with the soft pad for about a week now and I can do most 8s and some 9s pretty comfortably now. I can pass a few 10s but I'm not quite there yet. Anyway, I feel like I could if I had a metal pad, and maybe even move on to 11s if I keep practicing. I'm downloading some StepMania packs right now to play on ITG to expand my options!
I don't want an Omega GX pad for two reasons though: the first being the price (I don't except to be getting more than $250 total for my birthday in a couple of weeks), and the second being that it doesn't seem like a traditional metal pad..I'd rather have the brackets inbetween the arrows. I'm 16 by the way. I don't have a job yet so it's hard to get money.
I live in LA and I've been trying to find ITG machines but I haven't been able to find any. Back when I was younger I saw them at Six Flags and Castle Park, bowling alleys and other places but I didn't play then, and I checked yesterday and they were gone. I played DDR for the first time in an arcade for a LONG time yesterday and I like the brackets inbetween the pads which is why I don't really want to get an Omega GX (even though they're supposed to be amazing)
From what I can tell, Cobalt Flux and Blueshark pads are supposed to be really good as well but are extremely hard to find
I've been looking at this http://www.ddrgame.com/dance-dance-r...ournament.html and it seems like a good pad. I've heard that the earlier versions of those pads would crack but the new design here is supposed to be much more sturdy. The site claims that with their new design, they hit the pads with a hammer and it only left a few scratches. Would that be a good buy? Any other suggestions? I'm relatively new to all of this so there may be other pads that I don't know about at all
Any help would be appreciated!
Edit: This is the pad I currently have

I think it's the same as the standard Konami pads, and I've had no problems with it yet so I'm also thinking about doing the "standard" soft pad mod I found on this website: http://www.angelfire.com/pro2/softpadmod/#_Toc71480697
I don't want to do that unless there really aren't any good, relatively cheap metal pads out there, though. Another reason that I don't really want to do the soft pad mod over buying a metal pad is that the arrows on this pad seem further apart than on the metal pads (and even slightly more than the standard Konami pads).
